Promoting community food growing through digital storytelling

This afternoon online session with Cobra Collective will introduce you to digital storytelling techniques which will enable you to create short audio-visual recordings of the wonderful benefits of community food growing. You will learn about key concepts that can drive your story (e.g. community flourishing, radical hopefulness), approaches to storyboarding, key recording techniques (e.g. lighting, framing, composition), simple video editing and the promotion of your videos through social media channels.

Trainer bios

Julia Jung: Cobra Collective member and co-facilitator in the ‘Digital Storytelling for Community Food Growing’ project. Key areas of expertise include the use of immersive, creative and participatory storytelling techniques that bridge the gaps between communities and higher-level decision-makers. She is especially interested in reconciling visual and emotional forms of communication with science.

Andrea Berardi: Cobra Collective co-director and co-facilitator in the ‘Digital Storytelling for Community Food Growing’ project. His main interests lie in facilitating grassroots approaches to ecological sustainability and social justice using an action learning process. His work has pioneered the development and application of the concept of ‘community owned solutions’: practices that are conceived, developed and successfully implemented within communities, by communities, and without major influence from external stakeholders.

The Cobra Collective CIC is a UK-based social enterprise launched in 2016 with a clear vision: to see a world where marginalised communities are empowered to control their own destiny. Cobra Collective's mission is to empower communities to achieve positive change through capacity building, strengthening resilience, and developing long-term partnerships and collaborations.
