Picture autumn and winter in your mind’s eye, what do you see? Perhaps short cold days, grey skies, frosts, even snow. No vegetables growing, a period of sleep and death until the spring.

Well yes, all of that is possible... except the ‘nothing growing’ bit.

After the fast Hare-like pace of summer, winter growth is more of a slow tortoise crawl – and we know who won that race...!

Join me as we look afresh at growing vegetables through the autumn and winter, to find out what will grow and what you can harvest. You never know, you might come away with a different perception of these underestimated seasons.

Trainer: Paul Richens

Paul has been a gardener and worm-botherer since his farming parents gave him his own plot at the age of three. Since then, he has worked as a scientific photographer at The Natural History Museum, where his love of natural history was nurtured; a video producer/director in the US; and an account manager before he set up his own horticultural training company Blue Dome Synergies in 2008. He was Gardens Manager for Global Generation at the Skip Garden for ten years. He is passionate about showing Londoners how to grow good organic vegetables in any small space. He advocates working with nature pursuing a ‘no kill’ policy and teaches amongst other subjects an understanding of living soil.
