Capital Growth Team Days

Many Capital Growth spaces have said that they would like a team of volunteers to help them for a day, to help with a number of tasks such us building raised beds, compost bins or sheds, as well as clearing ground and planting.

Having the Capital Growth team help us for the day was a great help and made sure that our project got off to the best start possible.  If I could have chosen between receiving funding or their help for the day I would definitely have chosen to receive their help.  It's been priceless!
Anna, Co-ordinator of The Kingston Orchard Project

As a result we have started offering our own help to a different Capital Growth space for one day, each month.  Our team consists of members of the core Capital Growth team, as well as Capital Growth site support volunteers and members of Sustain (the charity that runs Capital Growth) staff.  We prioritise unfunded spaces in order to offer an extra element of support to those groups that have limited finances.

Once a group has successfully joined Capital Growth they will be given the opportunity to request some help.  Because we are limited to the number of days that we can provide practical support, spaces are selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The First Team Day - The Kingston Orchard Project

The first ever Team Day was held in Kingston in South-West London in January 2011.  The co-ordinator of the newly established Kingston Orchard Project requested a day of help in order to clear ground, create a path and plant fruit trees and bushes.
